Jeffrey R. Scott, founder and president of Advantage Business Advisors. He began his business career in 1971 and has successfully owned and operated numerous businesses. He has successfully employed the concept of business exit planning and optimized the value of his personal businesses in the market. Jeff firmly believes that if you fail to plan then plan to fail.
Mr. Scott is an accomplished, licensed professional, highly regarded for business exit planning, business valuation and mergers & acquisitions. Scores of successful business sales are a testament to his intermediary abilities. His experience has established him as an "expert" business consultant who is frequently retained to assist in litigation proceedings and business affairs of a difficult nature.
Mr. Scott’s professional credentials include his business degrees from The College of William and Mary (BBA), The Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute (CCIM), International Business Brokers Association (CBI) and The Virginia Realtors Institute (GRI).
Professional memberships include the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce where he has served on the Board of Directors; received their Business of the Year Award and honored with a Lifetime Membership Award. Mr. Scott is a Past President and long time member of the Stafford Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He Co-founded the Christian Business Development Council (CBDC) whose mission is to teach and equip businessmen to operate businesses in a Biblically based manner.
Jeff has been happily married for 30 years to Jill, his high school sweetheart. They have two adult children, Britton and Lauren, and one grandchild Dylan. He enjoys outdoors sports of biking, waterfowl hunting, hiking, fishing, boating and photography; He loves to drive to unknown places to meander around and explore... often getting "lost" much to Jill’s chagrin (who likes to drive directly). Inside activities include woodworking, reading, and being Grampy for little Dylan. He always seems to have a couple of "projects" going on to overfill his time.
Richard K. Freed, Vice President of Advantage Business Advisors, has been with the firm for two years and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations. He also manages the firm’s business appraisal practice.
Mr. Freed has 22 years of relevant business experience and a track record of success that includes line management in a manufacturing facility, general management of a multi-site direct marketing business, executive management in enterprise software IPO Company, and founder and principal of a business consulting practice. Mr. Freed is in the process of earning his Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) designation from the Institute of Business Appraisers.
Mr. Freed is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, served as an Airborne and Ranger - qualified infantry officer, and later earned his MBA at the Harvard Business School. Mr. Freed has taught small business management at the undergraduate level, organizational effectiveness at the graduate level, biblically-based business decision-making to business owners and managers, and has written and spoken on these subjects as well. Rick is co-founder with Jeff Scott of the Christian Business Development Council (CBDC).
Rick has been happily married for 27 years to Donna and they have two adult children, Zachary and Kristin.
